tiny veins criss-cross his lids
like leaves lit by sunlight
streams of the new life coursing
and pink fingers flailing
brushing eyes, lips, nose
squirming, he gently thumps
my lace-clad collarbone
settling finally into the crook
as though arms built to hold him
